Eric Larson got his first taste of Central America during a semester-long study abroad program in San Joaquín de Flores, Costa Rica. After returning to the States, he spent the majority of his spare time searching for a way to head back. After graduating from the University of Illinois, Eric returned to the region as a Peace Corps Volunteer. For 27 months starting in 2011, he lived in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. Following his service in September of 2013, Eric backpacked through Central and South America before returning to Guatemala to complete this book and accept a short-term position with Peace Corps Response. He is currently living in Tucson, working with the International Rescue Committee, and studying towards a Master’s degree in Public Administration at the University of Arizona.
“The book included helpful cultural information, and I could definitely relate to some of the Peace Corps stories from a previous visit to Guatemala.”

[The guide] is particularly helpful in leading travelers off the beaten path—but not too far. As for destinations “on the beaten path,” (like Antigua, Lake Atitlan, Tikal), there is helpful advice to get the most out of these stops.
